Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) is pushing for a formal investigation into former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and members of the now-dissolved January 6 Select Committee, which was led by Democrats and tasked with probing the Capitol riot of 2021.
Speaking to CNN’s Manu Raju, Jordan argued the previous committee’s work was little more than a politically charged attempt to undermine Donald Trump during his campaign. He also questioned Pelosi’s role and what she may have known ahead of the January 6 incident.
RAJU: “What are your objectives for the Republican side of this investigation, Mr. Jordan?”
JORDAN: “This has always been about going after President Trump. Democrats have fixated on this issue because they don’t want to talk about crime in major cities, the chaos at the border, or the skyrocketing costs of everyday goods—eggs, milk, lumber, airline tickets, used cars. Instead, they’ve launched their third attempt to target Trump while ignoring real problems.”
In a related development, Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-Ga.) revealed that House Speaker Mike Johnson has committed to formalizing a new committee to revisit the events surrounding January 6, 2021. With Republicans now holding control in Congress and the White House, they are moving to revive and expand investigations launched under prior leadership.
Loudermilk said discussions are still underway regarding the scope and structure of the committee, but it could take the form of a select committee with Johnson exercising broader authority over its operations. He also indicated the committee would spotlight findings from his own inquiry—one that reportedly recommends the FBI consider charges against former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), who served as vice chair of the original January 6 committee.
He characterized the former panel, led by Cheney and Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), as having a singular goal: to blame Trump for the Capitol breach. “In reality, there were failures across multiple levels,” Loudermilk said.
Speaker Johnson has publicly pledged that the renewed probe will be “fully funded,” signaling a strong Republican commitment to reexamine both the events of January 6 and the conduct of the original investigation.
According to CNN, House Republicans are also reviving several politically sensitive inquiries. New subpoenas were issued this week targeting two Justice Department tax investigators involved in the Hunter Biden investigation, as well as Special Counsel Robert Hur, who is probing President Biden’s handling of classified documents.
These moves are part of a broader GOP effort to revisit investigations they say were mishandled, downplayed, or politically weaponized during the last Congress—efforts that have often faced legal roadblocks and stalled progress.
